Fully grown, the average, healthy weight for a French Bulldog is 16-27 pounds, and they stand approximately  10-12 inches tall at the shoulder. The average French Bulldog lifespan is 11-14 years, but life expectancy can be affected by many factors such as genetics, and diet.

Do blue Frenchies shed a lot?

It depends on the breeder and the genetics.  Frenchies can carry 1, 2 or zero copies of the LPS gene.  This gene is called the “low propensity to shed” gene.  A dog with zero copies will shed a lot while a dog with one copy can shed moderately.
Lastly, a puppy that carries 2 copies of this LPS gene like all of our dogs, will not shed nearly at all.  We have 5 Frenchies in our home and we do not have any dog fur anywhere.
Overall, the French bulldog breed is a bit unique in its shedding because there are quite a few different variables that can play into the amount and timing of when these short-haired dogs shed.

Are blue Frenchies healthy?

Yes, if purchased from the right breeder, these can be super healthy, easy to care for dogs!  Due to bad breeding, hobby breeders, puppy mills Frenchies have gotten a bad rap for overall health.  Therefore there is definitely warranted speculation that blue Frenchies may have a higher likelihood of certain health problems.
While not correct, those with false information can argue that the genes responsible for the blue coat may potentially be linked to skin issues.  Others say it is linked to allergies, and a condition known as color dilution alopecia, causing hair loss or skin problems.  Overall, we do not notice ANY of this in ANY of our bloodlines here at Designer Frenchie puppies.

Are blue Frenchies rare?

Not super rare, but they sure were years ago! Blues, blue tan and blue merle French bulldog are stunning in their rare colors. The blue hue is striking, and the tan points add the perfect contrast to form a tuxedo or full suit.

What DNA makes a blue Frenchie blue?

The D Locus

Two alleles are that matter are the dominant full color (D) and the recessive dilute (d). Two copies of dilute gene are therefore necessary to lighten black pigment to grey (now referred to as blue) and red pigment to cream. A DNA blood test usually done at a specific lab for canine color and health DNA.

We typically use Animal Genetics labs for all of our blood tests.  Another popular lab is UC Davis. This test will identify the specific variants of the MLPH genes within the French bulldog puppies to show color and colors they “carry” or can “produce” if bred.

Our Merle French bulldog puppies are some of our most popular of all of our pups.  Most people who are knew to frenchies in general are unaware of the merle french bulldog colors.  Since our favorite stud to use is our own Elon Sacks, son of the famous Mr. Banks, we always have a few merle french bulldog near me, when we have litters.  Also, we work to produce merle pups with tan points. These would be called Tricolor merle Frenchies or also known as blue and tan merle, etc.

Keep in mind that the biggest thing is that Blue merle frenchie pups are fairly rare.  They sure are breathtakingly stunning and always unique! With the broken patterns, no 2 will ever look the exact same.
