Fluffy Frenchie

So you’ve decided the cutest thing you’ve ever laid your eyes on is a Fluffy Frenchie! Great choice, just consider they are a bit more money than a traditional French Bulldog puppy.  Fluffy Frenchie puppies are super cute, and certainly rare as can be in the world of Frenchies.  The newest and rarest and some say the cutest may just be the fluffy frenchie puppy.  Curious what makes a French bulldog a fluffy? Simply put, the long hair gene or actually 2 copies of the long haired Frenchie gene.

The way the fluffy French Bulldog gene works is that both parents must carry a copy of the L1 or L4 allele.  This is responsible for the furry Frenchie gene for longer hair.  If each parent carries at least one copy, than the puppies will either be visually fluffy or carry at least one copy of the gene for long fur.

Overall, the rareness of this long haired gene, combined with the high demand for Fluffy Frenchies, has led to their higher price tag when compared to non fluffy Frenchies.

Does a fluffy French Frenchie shed a lot?

Overall, French bulldogs are considered low-shedding, short-haired dogs.  There is a gene called the LP Gene often referred to as the low propensity to shed gene.  Most higher level breeders like us only breed dogs that carry 2 copies of this gene.  If so, your fluffy Frenchie puppy should not shed a bit.
However, there are a few different bloodlines of Frenchies that can shed worse than others. These dogs have no copies or only 1 copy of the low propensity to shed gene.  Fluffy Frenchies often have 1 copy or none and therefore may shed.  White this is normally true, they very well could have to copies of the LP gene and two copies of the L1 or L4 gene and therefore could have long haired AND not shed.
